John Jay Saldi, IV is a former professional American football player who played as a tight end in the NFL during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Originally from White Plains, New York, Saldi excelled in high school as both a linebacker and tight end, while also participating in basketball and baseball, demonstrating athletic versatility from a young age. He accepted a football scholarship to the University of South Carolina, where he initially played defensive end despite being considered undersized for the position. After an injury, he was moved to tight end and became a starter in his final college years, although an injury in his senior season limited his playing time.
