James Lewis started professional work in film and motion pictures in his mid teens. He was one of the youngest people to attain qualification to become a member of the Newfoundland Independent Film Makers Co-operative (Nifco). During this time he was making films and crewing early productions in Newfoundland. His first working gig in his teens was as both production manager and 1st assistant camera during second unit shooting of the movie 'The Adventure of Faustus Bidgood', Newfoundland's first full length feature film. In the years to follow, Jamie crewed and worked on all manner of features, television series, dramas, documentaries, shorts and television commercials as a 1st and 2nd Assistant Camera. Because of this, he was among the first to become a certified member of IATSE Local 667, central and eastern Canada's local of the International Cinematographers Guild.
