Mir Jalal Pashayev (Azerbaijani: Mir Cəlal Paşayev; 26 April 1908, Ardabil – 28 September 1978, Baku), known by his literary pen-name Mir Jalal, was an Azerbaijani writer and literary critic. He was the grandfather of Azerbaijan's current First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. Mir Jalal, who received his degree in education in 1928 in Ganja, two years later studied at Kazan University in Tatarstan, where Lenin once had been a student. Later on Mir Jalal enrolled in the Institute of Higher Education of Baku. While studying, he was doing research and writing for various newspapers. Among them the most notable was Young Worker for which many outstanding literary men of Azerbaijan contributed early in their lives. In 1933 he was working as a researcher of Azerbaijani literary history at the State University of Azerbaijan.
