Description

Marfa is a town on the borderlands of Texas. A place out of time. A desert where strange lights dance in the night sky. A mecca for lovers of minimalist art. A landscape of lost horses, freaks and food trucks. And then there’s the giant lemon.

I thought the phonetic of the title suggested something altogether more risqué, instead of this collection of sketches of the real town of the same name. It’s in Texas and these drawings, as well as some snippets of commentaries from it's residents, present us with an eclectic mix of it’s citizenry, structures, it’s singularly unique “festival” - and then there’s a lemon in there too. The animation is rudimentarily, but engagingly enough presented in quite a quickly paced fashion with the images delivered in a rapid-fire fashion as the stories suggest there is way more going on in this town that it’s size might suggest. I didn’t much like the abstract construction of this film, though, and it’s randomness didn’t really work for me but it’s an imaginative eight minutes that might leave you thinking the town belongs in an edition of “Tales of the Unexpected”!
