O, what a tangled web we weave on Cape Cod
In a town at the tip of Cape Cod, a struggling fisherman (Josh Walther) has to take a job as a shellfish warden. Despite having a wife & kids, he enters into an affair with a beautiful writer who lives on the shore (Jade Harlow). Tim Misuradze plays a neighbor of the writer while Chris Lazzaro is on hand as a dubious friend of the protagonist (Walther).
"Murder on the Cape" (2017) is a very low-budget crime drama by Arthur & Heather Egeli loosely based on the real-life 2002 murder of Christa Worthington, a 46-year-old fashion writer, in Truro, Massachusetts, near the tip of Cape Cod.
The strengths of the movie are the ravishing Jade Harlow, the masculine protagonist reminiscent of Jason Momoa (Walther), the nice Cape Cod scenery and the compelling story. The weaknesses are a script that needed the kinks worked out and some presumably local actors who act like they learned their lines 15 minutes before shooting.
If you like crime dramas based on real-life events the movie’s worth checking out as long as you can handle very low-budget Indies; then compare it with the real-life events. I was able to acclimate and enjoy the movie despite its shortcomings. The numerous reviewers who rate it 1/10 are obviously not used to seeing limited-budget productions. While the flick certainly has its issues (corresponding to its lack of finances), this is not a 1/10 production.
The film runs 1 hour, 35 minutes, and was shot in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
