Good watch, could watch again, but can't solidly recommend.
Etta Devine and Gabriel Diani carry the movie really well, and there is a good host of supporting characters. The situation is a key point in the humor in most of the movie, but it isn't a great joke, "haha, theses people have it rough and might die.".
The thing that really saves this movie, that tells me these two could make a great movie, is that they are legitimately funny, play off of each very well and can easily handle leading roles. What gives me even more confidence is that they have a killer stand-up routine that they split into 2 parts in way different parts of the movie and they can still reference the early part and it is funny.
I honestly want to see their Netflix special as well as their next movie.
This movie, however, is a LOT of situational comedy, which one has to go to great lengths to either explain or set up, and their not even apocalypse jokes: they're modern societal jokes in a apocalypse setting. Why would you bother to kill the world if you are going to do jokes that you could have done beforehand?!?!?
The animals are cute, but they have to point at the animal situations to make the jokes which immediately makes them less funny.
One of the biggest flags is (outside the stand-up) my favorite part was when America Young made a cameo. As much as I liked seeing her, it made me realize that the movie just isn't that strong.
When you're more interested in that someone you like, or someone hot, or both, shows up, then it's not nearly as good a movie as you want it to be.
