A man works in a darkened room on a sculpture of white marble. Whilst he does so, a crowd of people gathers outside. They have come to watch. But what do they expect? A miracle?
A man turns an old looking key in a lock, enters, turns on the light, radio and then to the tones of Schubert's "Ave Maria" proceeds to sculpt. He chips, carves, polishes and seems to inject some resin into the soft stone. Meantime, a crowd of people are casually walking towards his shed. As the camera works it's way through the assembled throng, we are presented with the stunningly created fruits of his labours - and an opportunity to question what our eyes are seeing. I quite enjoyed the last few minutes of this. We sort of know what he's making all along, but I wasn't quite expecting quite such a cynical footnote. Worth a watch.
