Shot on location in Goa, Southern India, it concerns a young man's search for his missing father, across beaches, through deserts, down rivers and through jungle he searches, finding love on the way. But what are these mysterious flashbacks of a trance party he keeps having? This cult film uses the then nascent psychedelic trance music scene to drive a hallucinogenic narrative in the spirit of The Wizard of Oz, The Matrix and Jacob's Ladder.
A incredible and psychedelic ride, that will have you wondering, what just happened?
From the music, to the plot, and everything in between, the movie had me guessing every few minutes. The movie starts out on a cliff of dire unreasoning, and continues to spiral out of control, as you follow Charlie on his quest to find his father. A long the way he meets strange characters and nothing seems to add up. This films great cast, and incredible filming locations, are just the tip of the icing. With an interesting perspective on life and death, and the human life cycle, one can't help but start thinking philosophically. Although at times the movie seems odd, and rather pointless, in the end it leaves you perplexed and deep in thought. Based loosely on Alice in Wonderland, this movie is anything but unoriginal, a feast for the senses you could say. The last thing that crosses your mind when its over, what just happened?, and where is Charlie.
